Story about this painting:

Mount Lu (Lushan) is traditionally regarded as a symbol of “the source of Heaven and Earth” or a “pure spiritual realm,” echoing classical Chinese cultural ideals of an immortal paradise or utopian sanctuary. It subtly conveys the philosophical aspiration of “Harmony between Heaven and Humanity” (天人合一).

The water’s surface reflects the mountains, clouds, and light, creating an interplay between reality and illusion. This mirroring effect embodies Daoist and Chan (Zen) philosophy—where form and emptiness coexist, and the boundary between the self and the world dissolves.

Through masterful use of negative space and delicate ink washes, the artist evokes the ethereal stillness of the pool, allowing the viewer’s mind to wander freely beyond the physical scene.

Philosophical Depth

On a deeper level, the painting explores contrasts of presence and absence, movement and stillness, humanity and nature. These elements express a core concept of Eastern aesthetics: the contemplation of eternity versus the fleeting moment, inviting quiet reflection and spiritual resonance.
