Story about this painting:
Between Deep Mountains is a poetic Chinese ink painting that captures a quiet, intimate moment within a vast mountain landscape. Layers of misty peaks and flowing ink washes form a deep, tranquil forest, evoking stillness, leisure, and a sense of comfort far removed from the noise of the world.
At the heart of the composition, a father and son walk together along a forest path. The surrounding mountains, trees, and even the father are rendered in restrained black-and-white ink, blending harmoniously into nature. In contrast, the son alone is painted with colour, gently drawing the viewer’s attention to him.
This deliberate artistic choice conveys a powerful message:
for the father, his child is the centre of his world. Amid the immensity of nature and life’s journey, the son represents warmth, hope, and love—the most important presence in his life.
The relaxed posture of the figures and the open space around them express a feeling of leisure, companionship, and contentment. It is not a grand or dramatic moment, but a peaceful one—walking together, sharing time, and finding happiness in simple togetherness.
Symbolism & Meaning:
Deep mountains: inner calm, protection, and life’s long journey
